This former WWII shadow factory, which manufactured aircraft components has now been sold to the company that owns Warren Row. It has been converted into a long term archive/document storage facility. The whole site has now been refurbished. Visits by members of the public are not allowed. At one time it was the AFHQ for London, replacing Warren Row.
Situated on the Wargrave Road it was part of the Park Place House Estate. Spitfires were manufactured at a site near Maidenhead, flown to Park Place (later known as RAF Henley after D-Day when it became fully operational) and instrumentation fitted which was manufactured in the tunnels beneath. The WRAF then flew them to the operational site.
In wartime black and white films you can tell if the film was made in the last eighteen months of war by the name ‘RAF Henley’ on the airfield list at the back of the operations room!
The shadow factory at Henley is up for sale for £600k. The estate agents have provided an excellent plan and photos.
