Hexham is a former cold store, and was converted into a bunker by the Home Office in the early 1980s. It became RGHQ 2.2.
The bunker was bought in December 1996 by local builders' merchant Matthew Charlton & Sons, who intend to redevelop the site.
The building has now been demolished.
